A lot of scars in the body are almost always avoidable. By using proper safety gear or taking precaution, wounds and scars can be avoided. Stretch marks on the other hand, are very hard to prevent. You cannot control how fast you grow during puberty or the size of your tummy when you become pregnant. When the skin stretches to quickly, the underlying dermal layer will tear thus resulting in stretch marks.
When the body undergoes rapid growth, the skin is forced to stretch and sometimes, it goes beyond its limits which cause the dermal layer to break. This is because the collagen supports of the skin might not be enough to make the skin elastic enough to be able to withstand the stretching. When this happens, the breaking of the dermis results in the formation of reddish brown lines on the skin called striae, or more commonly called stretch marks. Itchiness of these stretch marks may also be a problem as the skin becomes more sensitive due to the damage.
Removal can be done through various methods. The cheaper methods consist mostly of using creams to reduce the color so that it becomes less visible. Creams can either be artificial creams that contain chemicals proven to reduce the appearance of visible scars. Or it can be made of natural ingredients such as cocoa butter or aloe vera, which are generally regarded as effective means of eliminating those unwanted marks.
Dermabrasion is another option if you don’t trust removal creams to work. This procedure works by scraping off the outermost layer of the epidermis so that overlying scars will be removed. This is effective in removing all kinds of scars while helping lighten the skin as well. This costs a lot more than using creams and will leave your skin a bit sensitive for a few months while it regenerates a new layer.
Surgery using concentrated light to burn away scars in the body is called laser surgery. It uses the melanin in the skin to find areas that appear darker and these are the tissues that are burned. This is why it is more effective in removing newly formed and darker stretch marks. Laser surgery on older scars will not work as well since those would usually have a lighter color, similar to that of the skin.
Stretch marks are a problem that almost all people have. Prevention can be done by supplying the skin with enough collagen and elastin so that it can withstand excessive stretching. For existing stretch marks, elimination can be done through several techniques depending on what may be suitable for your pocket.
